It’s easy to take Isibloom. You’ll start by taking 1 orange pill per day for 21 days, then 1 green pill per day for 7 days. The orange pill is the “active” pill that contains ingredients to prevent pregnancy.
The green pill is the “inactive” pill that contains no medication but simply helps you remember to take your pill every day. You should take your pill at the same time every day.
Isibloom birth control pills have two main active ingredients: Desogestrel (progesterone) [0.15 mg] and Ethinyl Estradiol (estrogen) [30 mcg].
Isibloom side effects are possible, but they’re generally mild. Commonly reported ones include headaches, nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, fluid retention, fatigue, decreased tolerance to contact lenses, and decreased sex drive. Some women experience beneficial side effects like lighter periods and less acne.
Isibloom may increase the risk of blood clots in a small number of women. While rare, blood clots can cause life-threatening complications like deep vein thrombosis, stroke, and heart attack.
We know this is concerning. But remember, the likelihood of serious Isibloom birth control side effects is generally very low! We encourage you to discuss all your concerns with our dedicated Pandia Health Care Advisors.

Isibloom (desogestrel and ethinyl estradiol) is a birth control pill. It prevents an egg from being released from an ovary. It also makes changes in the cervical mucus so that it’s harder for sperm to reach the uterus. Isibloom also makes changes in the uterine lining so that it’s harder for an egg to attach to the uterus.
Because Isibloom contains relatively low amounts of estrogen—and because estrogen is important for bone health—Pandia Health CEO and Co-Founder Dr. Sophia Yen does NOT recommend Isibloom for women under the age of 30. For these women, slightly stronger alternatives might be more effective.
If you have high blood pressure or certain other conditions, Isibloom may not be your best choice. Dr. Yen and her team at Pandia Health often recommend alternative options including progestin-only pills, IUDs with hormones (Mirena, Liletta, Kyleena, Skyla), implants (nexplanon), the birth control shot (depo-provera), condoms, and/or spermicide.
Some women experience a slight increase in weight when they first start taking Isibloom, but this usually because of fluid retention rather than a gain in body fat.
If you’re concerned about weight gain while taking a birth control pill like Isibloom, be sure to maintain an active lifestyle and healthy diet. Our Pandia Health Care Advisors can offer helpful guidance as you select the best birth control method for your goals.
Did you know birth control pills like Isibloom may interact with other medications or drugs, and even herbal supplements like St. John’s wort? This could make Isibloom less effective at preventing pregnancy. That’s why you should always talk to your doctor about all the medications you take, including over-the-counter, prescription, and recreational drugs.
Medications that might interact with Isibloom include those used to treat thyroid disorders, HIV, hepatitis C, and epilepsy.
Since your body requires a little time to adjust to the medication in Isibloom, Dr. Yen recommends using a back-up birth control method during the first week after starting Isibloom.
Like other birth control pills, Isibloom does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, so consider using additional safer sex methods like condoms.
Talk to your doctor or one of our Pandia Health providers about your medical history before taking Isibloom. Isibloom should not be used by women who have certain medical conditions like heart disease, breast cancer, liver cancer, severe migraines, and poorly controlled high blood pressure or diabetes.
Be aware of the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction to Isibloom. Allergic reactions are rare and if they do occur the signs and symptoms are generally mild, including hives and itchiness. If you experience swelling of the lips or tongue or having trouble breathing while taking Isibloom, call 911 right away. These could be signs of a rare but serious allergic reaction.
Isibloom is a common birth control pill that you can get with a doctor’s prescription at almost any pharmacy. Our Pandia Health staff can provide you with a prescription for Isibloom or an alternative if you need something other than Isibloom.
We make payment easy! In addition to working with most private insurance plans, Pandia Health also offers flexible payment options for people who pay out of pocket
Isibloom does not cause infertility. If and when you want to become pregnant, simply talk to your doctor and stop taking Isibloom. Within one or two menstrual cycles, your fertility should be back to normal.
