How to Use Loestrin Fe 1.5/30

How to Use Loestrin Fe 1.5/30

Simply take one pill every day, at the same time each day. Most women find that taking Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 before bedtime or with your largest meal of the day helps reduce nausea and other side effects. It is recommended to take your first active pill the first Sunday after your period begins.

After taking 21 days of active pills, you’ll switch to 7 inactive pills. These are reminder pills with no hormones that exist to keep you in the habit of taking your pill every day. These seven tablets do have ferrous fumarate to prevent anemia from the blood loss with monthly bleeds.
If you do miss one active pill , take two pills as soon as you remember. Then, continue to take one active pill for the rest of the pill pack. If you miss two active pills in a row take two pills per day for two days.

However, if you miss three active pills in a row, do not take the missed pills. Instead you should use a back up birth control method for at least 7 days. Note that you may experience some bleeding or spotting if you miss three pills in a row.

Remember that Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 and other hormone based birth control cannot be used to prevent HIV infection or other sexually transmitted diseases. In order to prevent STDs, always use condoms when having sexual intercourse.

    Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 Dosage

    Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 Dosage

Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 birth control pills have two main ingredients: 1.5 mg of norethindrone and 30 mcgs of Ethinyl estradiol in each of the 21 first tablets, plus 7 tablets of 75 mg ferrous fumarate. Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 is a combination birth control pill.

    Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 Side Effects

    Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 Side Effects

The risks are very low, but some women have experienced unwanted side effects when taking Loestrin Fe 1.5/30.

Minor ones include breast tenderness, headaches, nausea, upset stomach, swollen feet or ankles, and slightly elevated blood pressure or blood sugar levels. Women who are breast feeding should not take Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 because it may slow breast milk production. Positive side effects are also a possibility, too — reduced acne, fewer mood swings, less painful periods, and other perks are fairly common.

The chances of serious side effects are extremely unlikely, but some cases have been documented. Symptoms include heart disease, blood clotting, chest pain and shortness of breath, migraines, vision problems, slurred speech, confusion, and fainting. Those who wear contact lenses or are nearsighted may notice vision problems as well.
These may sound scary, but remember — they’re very rare. The risk is about 3-6 women out of 10,000 per year using the medication might get a blood clot.

    What is Loestrin Fe 1.5/30?

Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 is a combined oral contraceptive pill (OCP) that prevents pregnancy by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation), and thickening the cervical mucus, blocking sperm from getting into the uterus and getting to the egg.

Dr. Yen, our CEO and Co-Founder, recommends that women 30 years and younger, use a birth control pill with a minimum of 30mcgs of estrogen to protect your bone density.

If you have high blood pressure, take blood pressure medications, or have severe migraine headaches: this medication, and other combination oral contraceptives are NOT for you as there is increased risk of blood clots or heart attack. Instead, Pandia Heath Medical group’s doctors recommend other birth control methods such as progestin-only pill (POPs)IUD with hormones (Mirena, Liletta, Kyleena, Skyla), implant (nexplanon), the birth control shot (depo-provera), or condoms and spermicide.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 is as effective as any other birth control pill – 99.7% effective with perfect use (in a research study) and 93% effective with “regular use” (when real people use it and mess up every now and then).

If you choose to pay out-of-pocket, Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 can be expensive due to its brand name ($175 per pack). You can save money by choosing any other Junel Fe 1.5/30 generics, such as Larin FE 1.5/30, Aurovela FE 1.5/30, Blisovi Fe 1.5/30, Gildess FE 1.5/30 for as low as $21 per pack. Generics have the SAME active ingredients and dosage as the name brand. Watch our video explaining generics vs. brand birth control pills.

Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 uses a blend of two hormones, estrogen and progestin, to make your body think it’s pregnant so a real pregnancy won’t happen.

Theoretically, Loestrin Fe 1.5/30 is effective immediately if you start taking it during your period. However, it is recommended that you use a backup method of contraception (i.e. condoms) during sex for at least seven days. For more information, click here.

Before starting Loestrin fe 1.5/30, inform your healthcare provider of medications (recreational drugs, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, supplements, or other drugs) you are already taking, as there may be potential drug interactions that impact the effectiveness. Tell your doctor if you have any symptoms of an allergic reaction such as hives, trouble breathing or swelling.

Additionally, alert your doctor if you have any pre-existing conditions or family history of breast cancer, liver disease, kidney disease, gallbladder problems, or liver cancer as you may be at higher risk of experiencing serious side effects.

No, Loestrin Fe 1.3/30 birth control does not usually stop your periods. There are 28 tablets in each pack, and you should have a withdrawal bleed at some point during the last seven days (aka placebo/sugar pill week). If you want to stop your period, skip the last row of pills and start your next pack. Learn more about #PeriodsOptional and how to skip your period here.
