Epiduo Gel Benefits

Reduces the number and severity of pimples and improves the overall appearance of the skin.

Kills bacteria and reduces inflammation, targeting 2 of the main causes of acne.

Easy to apply directly to the affected areas of the skin.

Well-tolerated and side effects are usually mild and temporary.

Convenient because it combines two strong ingredients that are normally in separate products. Allows you to enjoy the benefits of both of them by applying only one gel.

Prevents acne scars.

How to use Epiduo Gel

Epiduo gel should be applied topically to the affected area of the skin once a day, preferably in the evening before bedtime. Use a small amount of the medication (about pea-sized amount) for the face and a thin layer for each area of skin affected by acne. Before using Epiduo gel, wash your face with warm water, and mild or soapless cleanser, then pat dry. Apply a thin layer of topical gel to the acne-affected areas, avoiding the eyes, lips, and nostrils. Rub it gently until it is absorbed into the skin. Wash your hands immediately after applying the topical gel.

Epiduo Gel Dosage

Epiduo gel mixes Adapalene 0.1% and Benzoyl peroxide 2.5%.

Epiduo Gel Side Effects

Epiduo gel may cause side effects for some people.

Common side effects of Epiduo Gel include dryness, redness, itching, burning, and peeling of the skin where the medication is applied. These side effects are usually mild and go away within a few weeks of use. However, if you experience severe irritation or blistering, stop using Epiduo Gel and contact your doctor immediately.

Other possible side effects include skin discoloration (can get lighter or darker) and sensitive skin to the sun. In rare cases, Epiduo gel can cause severe allergic reactions, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, hives, or blistering of the skin. These adverse reactions and symptoms may or may not be accompanied by fever. If you experience any of those symptoms, stop using the medication, wash it off, and seek medical attention immediately. Call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency room.

Epiduo Gel Warnings

Some warnings to consider before using Epiduo gel are:

  • Epiduo gel should not be used by individuals who are allergic to benzoyl peroxide, adapalene, or any other ingredient in the medication.
  • Epiduo gel may cause skin irritation, especially during the first few weeks of treatment. If irritation persists or becomes severe, discontinue use and consult your doctor. Avoid using harsh soaps and other skin products that may dry your skin.
  • Avoid getting Epiduo gel in your eyes, nose, mouth, or on your lips. If this happens, rinse the affected area with water and seek medical attention if necessary.
  • Benzoyl peroxide may bleach hair and clothing. Be careful when applying Epiduo to avoid contact with the gel with clothing or hair. The benzoyl peroxide may bleach your pillowcases, towels, t-shirts, and clothing.
  • Epiduo gel may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid sun exposure and tanning booths or tanning beds. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.
  • It is important to use Epiduo gel as prescribed, do not use more or less than recommended by your doctor.
  • Most experts recommend stopping this medication for pregnant women. The medication is absorbed by the skin and there is not enough significant scientific data to show it does not harm the growing fetus/unborn baby. There is insufficient human scientific data to show that the medication passes into the breast milk so breastfeeding is probably okay but always consult with your doctor to get a professional opinion for your specific case.
  • Consult your doctor before starting to use any other herbal medications or other drugs. They may interact with the medication.

Epiduo Gel Interactions

We are only going to list some interactions of Epiduo Gel here, this is not a complete list. Talk to your doctor before using any prescription medications with Epiduo gel and vice versa.

Drug interactions
Epiduo Gel may interact with certain medications, such as:

  • oral retinoids and other topical retinoids, which may increase the risk of skin irritation. It is important to tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking before using Epiduo gel.
  • Aminolevulinic acid makes you sensitive to bright lights and combining it with Epiduo which has adapalene will increase your risk of severe sunburn.

Interactions with other topical medications:

  • Epiduo Gel should not be used with other topical acne treatments that contain benzoyl peroxide or topical retinoids, because this may increase the risk of skin irritation and dryness.

Interactions with skincare products:

  • Epiduo Gel may interact with certain skincare products that contain high concentrations of alcohol, astringents, or exfoliating agents. These products may increase the risk of skin irritation and dryness when used in combination with Epiduo Gel.

Interactions with cosmetic products:

  • It is generally safe to use cosmetic products while using Epiduo Gel. However, it is recommended in general that you choose non-comedogenic and oil-free cosmetics to avoid clogging pores and worsening acne.

Interactions with other acne treatments:

  • Epiduo Gel should not be used in combination with other topical acne treatments unless specifically recommended by a healthcare provider. Using multiple acne treatments at the same time may increase the risk of skin irritation and dryness and/or reduce the effectiveness of the treatments.

Interactions with skincare ingredients:

  • Epiduo Gel contains adapalene and benzoyl peroxide. It is important to check the ingredients of other skincare products you are using to avoid any potential interactions or excessive skin dryness and irritation. Avoid products that contain high concentrations of alcohol, astringents, spices, lime, or exfoliating agents.
  • Avoid using harsh soaps or cleansers, coloring hair, hair removal products or waxes on the area that is being treated with Epiduo gel because this can make that area even more irritated.

Interactions with antibiotics:

  • There are no known significant interactions between Epiduo Gel and antibiotics. However, always tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking including Epiduo gel

Interactions with diseases (Epiduo gel can make these diseases worse):

  • Eczema/Atopic dermatitis
  • Psoriasis
  • Seborrheic dermatitis

Please, note these are only some interactions. Always let your doctor know that you are on Epiduo gel before starting any new medications.

What is Epiduo Gel?

Epiduo gel is a prescription medication used to treat acne. This topical medication contains a combination of two active ingredients, adapalene (0.1%) and benzoyl peroxide (2.5%). Adapalene is a retinoid that reduces inflammation associated with acne and Benzoyl peroxide kills acne-causing bacteria and helps to exfoliate dead skin cells.

Epiduo gel helps to reduce the risk of developing acne scars.

Epiduo gel is a topical acne treatment only available with a prescription. Pandia Health’s expert doctors are happy to help you get the right topical acne treatment for you to help you say bye to acne and hello to clear skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you stop using Epiduo, your acne may return or worsen. This is because Epiduo works by reducing inflammation, killing bacteria that cause acne, and preventing new breakouts from forming. If you stop using the medication, the bacteria may start to multiply again, and the acne may come back. It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions and use Epiduo as prescribed to achieve the best results.

Epiduo contains adapalene, which is a type of retinoid. Retinoids are derived from vitamin A and are used to treat acne, aging, and other skin conditions. Adapalene works by regulating the growth of skin cells, reducing inflammation, and preventing the formation of comedones, which are the precursors to pimples. Benzoyl peroxide, the other active ingredient in Epiduo, is not a retinoid but kills the bacteria that cause acne.

Epiduo Gel is used to treat acne vulgaris, a common skin condition characterized by the formation of pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads on  forehead, jawline, chin, cheeks, neck, upper chest, and back. It works by targeting multiple factors that contribute to the severe acne vulgaris, including inflammation, excess oil production, and bacterial overgrowth. With regular use, Epiduo Gel can improve the appearance and texture of the skin, leading to a clearer, smoother complexion.
